Social events during 2000
Members who gathered in the rose garden of Fyling Hall School during the Spring 2000 Weekend heard extracts from the Walmsley biography which was intended for publication later that year.
Keith Handley, a member of the Society Reading Team, reads extracts from the Walmsley biography with the wide vista of the bay and the Ravenscar headland in the background. The Autumn Meeting held in Fowey included a river cruise which offered a view of the site of Walmsley's former home, and the opportunity to take the "Hall Walk" from Bodinnick to the village of Polruan. This view of the Fowey estuary can be seen from the Quiller-Couch Memorial which is situated at a viewing point on the Hall Walk. To the left is Pont Pill where Walmsley lived during the early 1930s and again after the Second World War. It was in Fowey that he met and married his third wife, Stephanie.
Saturday evening in Fowey offered members the opportunity to socialise in the restaurant of a local hotel. Standing in the centre of the photograph is Selina, daughter of Leo and Stephanie, who recounted some of her memories of her father to an appreciative audience.
